Reconstruction of a landmark building for the University of Pennsylvania’s alumni club in New York City. The project included extremely high finishes throughout the building. Removed and reconstructed the top three floors of the existing sixteen (16) story building with a staging area of twelve feet by fifty feet. Winner of the Municipal Arts Society Reconstruction Award and the Associated General Contractor’s Build New York Award.
Reconstructing a N.Y. Landmark
Helpern Architects rescued the long-ago clubhouse at 30 West 44th Street from near-dereliction, enabling it to become a social as well as architectural success. Helpern entirely created the club’s interiors – none of the period woodwork or lighting, for instance, is “original” – and added two stories to the structure for a gym and equipment.
